The Project

Premier Rail Pits were appointed by Story Contracting in 2019, with the
project consisting in the supply and installation of 3no inspection pits at
Network Rail Route Services’ Holgate Depot in York. Network Rail required the additional pits due to an increase in maintenance activity required within the depot.

The Problem

Due to the depot being operational during the upgrade works, Story sought to find a solution for the pits to keep disruption to a minimum.

Solution

After a consultation period discussing the design, Premier Rail Pits were
able to supply a commercially competitive product when compared to
traditional in situ poured concrete methods, by drastically reducing onsite
time, and offering a long-term watertight product which is easy to
maintain and clean. All rail fixings, LED lighting, air points and access steps
were installed in the pits prior to delivery to site, further reducing the
duration of the project. Once installed, all lighting, including emergency
lights, were connected by Premier Rail Pits as part of the works.
